DOHERTY AND GONZALES FINALISTS FOR RBK DIVISION III ALL-AMERICAN TEAM

Senior goalie Jill Doherty (Wellesley, Ma.) and junior forward Lynny Gonzales (Rochester, NY/New Hampton Prep) (Rochester, N.Y.), of the Utica College women's hockey team, have been named to the ECAC Women's West All-Conference Second Team, and are also finalists for the RBK Division III All-American team. This is the first time Doherty and Gonzales received all-conference honors.

The RBK Division III All-American team is made up of two teams, east and west. Doherty and Gonzales are among 36 finalists competing for the 12 nominations for the east team. The 12 nominees will be announced at either Gustavus Adolphus College or Wisconsin River-Falls University during the women's Final Four banquet this Thursday.

Doherty, who was a two-time conference goalie of the week selection this season, finished her career at the top of the chart on UC's all-time wins list. She earned 35 victories in her four-year stay, and ranks second all-time with ten career shutouts. Doherty ranked 20th nationally with a .925 save percentage, and had 756 saves in 25 games this season. She allowed one goal or less in nine game, while posting two shutouts. In her final game versus Plattsburgh State in the ECAC West women's semi-finals, Doherty made 46 saves marking the fifth time in her career that she made 40 plus saves in a single game.

Gonzales finished strong in her junior campaign. She tallied 30 points, including16 goals and 14 assists in 27 games. She finished 10th in scoring for the women's ECAC West division with 22 of her 29 points scored during conference play. Gonzales is UC's active scoring leader with 71 points (29 goals, 38 assists) in 71 games. She also netted a team-best this season with four power-play goals this season.

The Pioneer's season came to an end last Saturday in the ECAC West women's semi-finals at Plattsburgh State after a 5-2 loss. Utica finished its 2009 campaign with a 13-12-2 record, and an 8-8-2 record in league play.
