FOURTH QUARTER WOES CONTINUE AS PIONEERS DROP ANOTHER CLOSE ONE

The Utica College men's lacrosse team lost in a tight match Wednesday night to the Oswego State Lakers. The Pioneers had a two goal lead heading into the final quarter but were unable to seal a victory on the road. Michael Bulger (Watertown, N.Y.) and Andrew Waite (Lowville, N.Y.) paved the way for UC collecting three points each on the night.

The Pioneers fell to 1-6 on the year, while the Lakers improved their record to 2-6 after a four game slide.

Oswego State dominated the first quarter and out shot the Pioneers 13-1, but was unable to figure out goaltender Travis Wright (Watertown, N.Y.). The game went scoreless after the first quarter of play.

Both teams jumped out of the gates in the second quarter and scored five goals each. Dan Scarazzo and Adam Jean got on the board first and helped score three unanswered goals for the Lakers. Utica answered right back with two Bulger goals in a span of one minute 49 seconds. Mike Wiesenthal and Chad Smith scored for Oswego State while Corey Boulio (Carthage, N.Y.), Michael Brodhead (Cicero, N.Y.), and Waite netted one apiece for the Pioneers late in the quarter.

UC continued their solid play in the third quarter scoring three goals and led the Lakers 8-6 heading into the final quarter. Brodhead and Waite scored their second goals of the game while Reed Reynolds (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in his first of the night.

The fourth quarter turned into a penalty filled event for the Pioneers, which led to Oswego's Adam Jean scoring four unanswered goals. Reynolds netted his second on the night, but it was not enough for the Pioneers.

Wright stood tall in the net for the Pioneers as UC was out shot 43-26 and made 15 saves. The Pioneers led Oswego State in groundballs with a 43-40 advantage.

Oswego took advantage of the 20 UC penalties and went 5-for-20 on extra man opportunities while the Pioneers went 2-for-6.

Utica College will look to turn their game around next Wednesday when they take on Nazareth College at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
