The Utica College men's lacrosse team defeated Empire 8 rival Alfred University Saturday 10-8. Freshman
Pete Schneider (Syracuse, NY) led the way for the Pioneers with a career high five goals, while senior goalie
Travis Wright (Watertown, NY) made 13 saves in his fourth win of the season.
The Saxons were able to find the back of the net early as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. The Pioneers got on the board at the 4:42 mark as Schneider scored his fourth goal of the year off an assist from senior
Michael Brodhead (Cicero, NY). After trailing in the first quarter 4-2, the Pioneers took control in the second as they scored four straight man-up goals with help from senior
Andrew Waite's two assists.
UC opened the second half behind two goals from Schneider, off assists from
Corey Boulio (Carthage, NY) and
Michael Schepis (Watertown, NY) to bring the score to 8-4. The Saxons were then able to go on a run, scoring three consecutive goals in the third as the score sat at 8-7 entering the fourth quarter. The Pioneers were able to put the game away at the forth quarter's 13:24 mark as Boulio netted his second goal of the game of an assist from Waite and UC would go on to win 10-8.
The Pioneers are now 4-7 overall and 2-2 in conference as the Saxons fall to 3-7 on the season and 0-4 in the Empire 8.
Utica College will be back in action Wednesday as they take on the Hartwick Hawks at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium with an expected start time of 4 p.m.
