UTICA CLOSES OUT SEASON WITH LOSS AT #13 FISHER

The Utica College men's lacrosse team trailed by just two goals at halftime, but the Pioneers struggled offensive in the final thirty minutes, as host and nationally-ranked No. 13 St. John Fisher earned a 17-5 victory in Empire 8 Conference play Saturday. Senior Michael Bulger closed out his career with a team-high three points on one goal and two assists. Bulger finishes his career ranked second on the College's all-time scoring list with 179 career points.

Senior goalie Travis Wright made 11 saves in his final game in net for the Pioneers. Wright broke his own school-record and became the first goalie in school-history to stop over 200 shots in a single season. He finished with 203 saves this season. His career comes to a close ranked second on the College's all-time list with 516 career saves.

After falling into an early 2-0 hole just 1:12 into the contest, UC rallied with two straight goals to knot the score at 2-2 at the end of the first quarter of play. Senior John Giordano and freshman Ben Winkler each netted their tenth goals of the season to tie the score headed into the second.

The Pioneers were able to take a 3-2 lead when junior Kevin Conway netted his ninth goal of the season, unassisted, at the 12:48 mark of the second quarter. Fisher answered with a goal to tie the score at 3-3 before the Pioneers took their final lead of the day when Bulger scored his 38th goal of the season to put UC up by one, 4-3, with 9:42 to go in the first half.

Fisher rattled off three goals in the final eight minutes of the half to take a 6-4 lead into intermission.

The Cardinals opened the second half with nine straight goals to take a commanding 15-4 lead. Senior Michael Brodhead closed out his career by netting the Pioneers final goal of the game, his 22nd of the season, to wrap up the third quarter scoring.

Fisher went on to score two more in the fourth quarter, and held UC scoreless in the final 15 minutes, to earn the 12 goal victory.

Sophomore defender Mike Krajacic scooped up a team-high five ground balls and caused four turnovers for the Pioneer defense.

UC season comes to a close with a 5-10 overall record, including a 3-5 mark in conference play. With one game remaining, Fisher has secured a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament with a 15-1 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the conference.
