PIONEERS IMPROVE TO 1-1 IN EMPIRE 8 AS WOMEN'S SOCCER BEATS ALFRED

Utica, N.Y. (9-26-10) – The Utica College women's soccer team beat Alfred University 1-0 Sunday as the Pioneers improve to 1-1 in conference play and 2-6 overall on the season.  AU falls to 2-3-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the Empire 8.

Sophomore Jaime Hillman (Hornell, NY/Hornell) (Hornell, NY) headed her first goal of the season off a pass from senior Cheyenne Chrzanowski (Lee Center, NY/Rome Free Academy) (Lee Center, NY) from a corner kick with just over a minute remaining in the first half.  Hillman had three shots on goal.  Senior Amber Cormeau (Medford, MA) added four shots on goal coming off the bench.  Freshmen goalkeeper Jocelyn Rivera (Yonkers, NY /Gorton) (Yonkers, NY) had five saves in her first career shutout.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they travel to Oneonta, N.Y. to face conference rival Hartwick College.  The Hawks are currently 4-2 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play.  The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
