PIONEERS PREPARE FOR TWO-GAME WEEKEND SET AGAINST BEARS IN WOMEN'S HOCKEY

Utica, N.Y. - The Utica College women's hockey team (9-6, 5-5 ECAC West) prepares for a two-game set this weekend against conference rival SUNY Potsdam (7-9, 3-8 ECAC West). Saturday, the Pioneers will welcome the Bears to the Utica Memorial Auditorium and Sunday they will travel to Potsdam for the second and final game of the two-game season series. The puck is scheduled to drop at 4 p.m. for both games.

Last season, the Pioneers won both games against Potsdam to close out the regular season. UC beat the Bears 6-4 in Potsdam and the following day, 5-1, at “the Aud”. Since joining the conference in 2008-2009, Utica is undefeated against the Bears with a record of 3-0-1 outscoring them 16-7 in those games.

UC is led by senior forward Darcy Hier (Centennial, CO/Colorado Selects) who is currently ranked third in the nation in assists per game (1.07). Hier is also ranked 13th nationally in points per game (1.27).

Freshman Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) is first on the squad in goals with nine and second in points with 16. Myers currently ranks seventh in the country in rookie scoring and is 18th nationally in goals (nine).

Three other Pioneers, senior captain Lynny Gonzales (Rochester, NY/New Hampton Prep), Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)), and assistant captain Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School), are tied for third in scoring with 11 points. Gonzales and McMahon each have five goals and six assists.

Following this weekend, the Pioneers return to the ice next Saturday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6 when UC travels to Aston, PA for a weekend series against Neumann University. Saturday's game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and Sunday's contest at 3 p.m. Neumann is currently 8-6-3 overall including a conference record of 5-6-1.
