UC Women's Soccer Drops Second Straight in E8 Play

Utica, NY (10-1-11) – The Utica College women's soccer team (3-6, 1-2 Empire 8) lost 3-0 to Stevens Institute of Technology (6-3-2, 1-0-1 Empire 8) Saturday afternoon at the Utica College Soccer Field.  Senior Chelsea Way (Cuyler, NY/DeRuyter) led the Pioneers with three of their seven shots.

Stevens took an early lead at 18:40 when sophomore Bridgette Barden netted her sixth goal of the season off a pass from junior Brittany Odgers to take a 1-0 lead. 

Barden, the Duck's leading scorer, found the back of the net again at 35:30 for her seventh goal of the season, unassisted, to give Ducks a 2-0 advantage.   

Just six minutes later, at 41:33, Stevens took a 3-0 lead after senior Kathleen Schuckers converted an unassisted goal to seal the victory.

Junior Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham) and senior Jill Benoit (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) combined for three shots including two on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School) registered five saves however allowed three goals in the defeat.

The Pioneers return to action Sunday as they travel to Schenectady, NY to face Union College in a non-conference match.  The game will be held at The Turf At College Park Field and is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.  The Dutchwomen are currently 9-1 on the season including a 1-1 record in the Liberty League.
