Schenectady, N.Y. (10/2/2011) – The Utica College women's soccer team lost to nationally-ranked No. 23 Union College 4-0 in a non-conference contest Sunday afternoon.  Senior Chelesea Way led the way for UC with two shots on goal, while senior goalie Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School) added eight saves in net. 

The Pioneers (3-7) hope to snap a three game scoreless streak next Saturday when they return home for an Empire 8 Conference bout against Elmira College. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Sophomore midfielder Laura Snowden had a goal and an assist to lead the Union to a victory at College Park. The Dutchwomen (10-1, 1-1 Liberty League) used three second half goals to pull away from the Pioneers and outshot Utica 22-5 for the contest, including 12 shots on goal.

Union took an early lead in the first half when junior midfielder Giovanna Velardo scored her second goal in as many games, converting a rebound at the 9:17 mark.

Snowden recorded her first assist of the season, setting up the goal with an initial shot off the inside of the far post. The ball sat just outside the goal line, and Velardo tapped it in for her second goal of the season.

Union held a 9-2 advantage in shots in the half, and did not allow a Utica shot on goal until the 42:58 mark of the first half.

Snowden scored her second goal of the season at 62:19 of the second half following a rebound off an initial shot from freshman forward Mollie Gilchrist that deflected of the post.

Just over two minutes later, junior forward Jennifer Mansfield scored her third goal of the season on a free kick from 30 yards out, beating Glockling high for a 3-0 Union lead at 64:55.

Freshman defender Julia Shively would score her first collegiate goal at 73:34 with a long shot to round out the scoring for the Dutchwomen.
