Pittsford, N.Y. (10/29/11) – The Utica College women's soccer teams shot at a bid to the Empire 8 Conference Tournament was denied Saturday after a 2-0 loss to host St. John Fisher College.  The Pioneers, who had won two straight headed into the contest, closed out their 2011 campaign with a 5-11 overall record, including a 2-5 ledger in conference play.

Utica will graduate six seniors this offseason, including goalie Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School), midfielder Chelsea Way (Cuyler, NY/DeRuyter), midfielder Jill Benoit (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), forward Jamie Merdinger (Plainview, NY/Plainview JFK), as well as defenders Alyssa Upson (Frankfort, NY/Whitesboro) and Lindsey Valentine (West Winfield, NY/Cooperstown)

Glockling capped her final collegiate game with five saves in net for the Pioneers.  Fisher earned an 18-3 shot advantage and got one goal in each half from Chelsea Oberkrieser and Alex Rohloff, respectively.

Sophomore Sarah Southwell (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) led the way for UC with two shots.  Southwell finished the year ranked second on the team with 16 points on six goals and four assists.  Junior transfer Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham) finished her first year as a Pioneer with a team-high eight goals.  She also added three assists for a total of 19 points.
