UTICA, NY (10/08/2011)- The Utica College field hockey team snapped its two-game winning streak Saturday as they lost 1-0 to Elmira College in Empire 8 Conference play.  Senior forward Mallory Mariano (Oneida, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) registered 12 shots of which eight were on goal for UC.

The Soaring Eagles scored the winning goal in ovetime off a penalty corner.  Senior Sarah Thomassen passed the ball out to sophomore McKenna Light who snuck the ball past goalkeeper Monica Storms (Owego, NY/Owego)

The Pioneers drop to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8, while the Soaring Eagles improve to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.  This was UC's first loss to Elmira since 2007.

Storms stopped nine shots in net for the Pioneers while allowing one goal.  She now has 70 saves and is among the league leaders in goals against average.

Freshmen Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) and Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) combined for nine of the Pioneers' 20 shots on goal.

UC outshot the Soaring Eagles 20-10 and had a 13-7 penalty corner advantage.

The Pioneers return home Sunday for a non-conference match-up against The College at Brockport.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
