UC Blanked By Naz in E8 Play

Glockling stopped eight shots in net for UC

UTICA, NY (10-09-11) - The Utica College women's soccer team (3-9, 1-4 Empire 8) lost to Nazareth College (6-2-3, 3-0-1 Empire 8) Sunday 2-0 at the Utica College Soccer Field.  Senior Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School) registered eight saves for the Pioneers. 

Nazareth got on the board with 14 minutes left in regulation when freshman Kaitlyn Sowyrda took a pass from sophomore Anne Czelusniak and converted on a break away at 75:59.  Sowyrda drove a hard shot passed Glockling for her first collegiate goal. 

Just over five minutes later, at 80:35, the Golden Flyers struck again as Czelusniak got the ball at the top of the box and dished it to junior Katie Wyant who tucked it inside the far post for her first goal of the season. 

Nazareth outshot UC 22-2 on the day and held a 10-0 advantage in shots on goal as they Golden Flyers improved to 3-0-1 in conference play and 6-2-3 overall.

Junior Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham) and sophomore Sarah Southwell (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) each registered one shot for UC as it lost its fifth straight, dropping to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in the E8.

The Pioneers return to action next Sunday, Oct. 14 as they welcome Skidmore College to Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  The non-conference contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.  The Thoroughbreds are currently 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the Liberty League Conference.
