Utica, NY (11-29-11) – The Utica College women's hockey team got back on track Tuesday as it defeated local rival Hamilton College 5-3 at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Sophomore standout
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) led the way for UC with two goals and one assist.
The Pioneers (4-6) broke the ice at 8:39 when junior
Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA/Washington Pride) netted her second goal of the season, even strength, off assists from sophomore
Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride) and junior assistant captain
Lindsay Norton (Eden, NY/Buffalo Bisons) to give UC an early 1-0 lead. Just .26 seconds later, UC jumped to a 2-0 advantage as scoring leader

Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School). The Continentals answered, cutting the lead to 2-1, at 14:56 when Stephanie Lang converted a power-play set-up from Abby Runyon.
Hamilton knotted the game up 2-2 at 4:46 in the second period as Laura DiCarlo found the back of net off a feed from GiGi Fraser. Both teams were penalized once and killed each others' man-up advantage in the second period of play.
UC came out of the locker room with a quick goal just over four minutes into the final period as Myers continued her strong sophomore campaign tallying her fifth goal of the season. Junior
Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) grabbed her fourth assist of the season on the eventual game-winner. The Pioneers were cushioned with an insurance goal by
Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA/Washington Pride) at 17:24 as Tice and junior
Mary Fusco (Enfield, CT/Salve Regina University) added assists to push UC to a 4-2 lead. Steele-Norton ripped an empty-netter with just over a minute remaining to lock up the victory for Utica as they moved to 4-6 on the season.
Hamilton scored with .26 left in regulation, however the Continentals (0-3) fell short and remain winless on the year.
Sophomore
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) improved to 3-3 while stopping 29 shots in net for the Pioneers.
UC returns to the ice Saturday as it travels to Cortland for an ECAC match-up against the Red Dragons. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m.
