2011-2012 Schedule & Results

Utica, NY (12-28-2011) – The Utica College men's basketball team returns to the court following winter break on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 and it looks to snap a five-game skid against local rival SUNYIT.

Game-Time: The game will be held at the Wildcat Gymnasium (Marcy, NY) with a scheduled tip-off of 5 p.m.

UC in 2011: Utica wrapped up its first semester with a 3-6 record … The Pioneers lost their home opener to Potsdam before winning three in a row, including a tournament victory at the Hilbert Tip-Off Tournament … Following Tuesday night's match-up, 14 of the Pioneers' next 15 games will be against Empire 8 Conference opponents.

Cross-Town Rivalry: Since the 2005-06 season Utica holds a 9-3 advantage against SUNYIT in heads-up play … The Pioneers won eight straight meetings from 2005-2009.

The Watch List: Junior Matt Baldwin (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) is leading the team in scoring (17.1 Avg/G) and he ranks second in 3-point (34.7%) and free throw percentage (75.0%) … Senior forward Jeff Ward (Ossining, NY/Ossining High School) has been strong in the post thus far, averaging just short of a double-double at 15.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest … Senior Reggie German (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) leads the team from the charity stripe with an impressive 86.7 free throw percentage … German also ranks third in scoring (11.9 Avg/G), rebounds (6.7 Avg/G), assists (2.1 Avg/G) and steals (1.2 Avg/G).

The Locals: Utica freshman swing man Walkery Mills and SUNYIT freshman T'Andre Richardson were teammates last season at T.R. Proctor High School where they led the Raiders to the Sectionals … Mills, presently fifth on the team in minutes (17.4 Avg/G), is working his way into the everyday sixth-man role … He currently is averaging 6.1 points, 2.1 boards, and is shooting 64.7% from the free throw line, good enough for third on the team … Richardson currently leads the team and the North East Athletic Conference with 19.4 points per game in his freshman campaign.

SUNYIT Scouting Report: The Wildcats are 1-6 so far with their lone win coming by way of a 102-98 defeat of the Pioneers back on Dec. 6 at the Clark Athletic Center … SUNYIT lost its first five games before beating UC and then lost to SUNY Cortland, 93-63 … Junior Derek Rowe is averaging 12.9 points per contest to along with 8.9 boards for SUNYIT.

Back on the Court: The Pioneers return to the hardwood Friday, Jan. 6 as they host Nazareth College in their conference opener at 8 p.m. ...  On Saturday, UC will welcome St. John Fisher for an afternoon tip scheduled for 4 p.m.  Both contests will be held at the Clark Athletic Center.
