Utica, NY (12-9-11) - The Utica College women's basketball team had its three-game win streak snapped Friday as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute downed the Pioneers, 54-37, at EVAC Arena. Sophomore Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) netted 16 points to go along with eight boards to pace UC.

Utica returns to the hardwood Tuesday, Dec. 13 as it hosts non-conference rival Union College (3-3).  Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center. 

The Engineers outshot the Pioneers 37.5% to 26.1% from the field in the first half as they took a 27-13 lead into the locker room. Utica tied the game 2-2 just .27 seconds into the contest and would never catch the home team as RPI ran up a 10-0 run over the next six minutes. Sophomore Alyssa Filkins (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) drained a 3-pointer at 6:54 to cut the lead to ten points,19-9, before the Engineers managed another spurt resulting in an 8-0 push, taking a 27-9 advantage. Utica scored the final four points of the first half.

The Pioneers pulled within 12 points of the lead, 31-19, at 17:43 in the second half.  However, RPI did not let up as it answered with a 10-2 strut capping its biggest lead of the contest, 41-21, with under seven minutes to play. UC battled over the next seven minutes as it posted its biggest run of the game, a 13-7 dash, to cut the score to 48-34, at 5:14. The Engineers went 1-for-20 from behind the arc compared to the Pioneers 3-for-12 margin, however 16 UC turnovers would result in ts third loss of the season.

Filkins added ten points, six rebounds and two assists, while senior Justine Karst (Olean, NY/Hinsdale) and freshman Mara Newland combined for seven points, 13 boards, four assists and steals for the Pioneers.
