UC STUMBLES AT CONFERENCE LEADER ITHACA

Utica, NY - The Utica College women's basketball team lost to host Ithaca College, 75-61, Saturday afternoon at Ben Light Gymnasium. The Pioneers were led by senior All-American Jessica Berry (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and sophomore Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) who combined for 43 points and 17 rebounds.

UC took its first and only lead of the game, 3-0, off a basket from guard Devon Croll (Vernon, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) .21 seconds into the game. Ithaca would go on a 9-0 run over the next minutes en route to a 22 point halftime lead. Bombers guard, Jennifer Escobido, recorded 12 of her 16 points during Ithaca's first half run.

Utica would outscore the home team, 39-31, in the second half, however, couldn't overcome the deficit from early on. Fiore netted 13 of her game-high 22 points in the second half.

Berry registered her 13th double-double of the season with 21 points, 12 boards and three steals. Croll added 10 points, five assists, two rebounds and dishes for UC.

Ithaca's guard Jordan Confessore had a team-high 18 points to along with nine rebounds.

The Pioneers return to the hardwood Tuesday as they host Empire 8 rival Hartwick College at the Clark Athletic Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Hawks are currently 6-9 overall including a 3-4 mark in conference play.
