PIONEERS LOSE IN OVERTIME TO LOCAL RIVAL HAMILTON

Utica, NY - The Utica College women's hockey team lost to Hamilton College, 2-1, Tuesday night in

overtime at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The Pioneers fall to 10-10 overall and have a 6-8 record in the ECAC Women's West Conference, while the Continentals improve to 10-10 on the season and hold a 5-7 mark in the NESCAC. Junior defender MacKenzie Roy (Concord, NH/Cushing Academy) scored UC's only goal of the evening.

Utica took a 1-0 lead at 17:31 in the first period when Roy netted her sixth goal of the season, seven seconds into the Pioneers first power-play. Freshman Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride) and senior Tiffany Bichrest (Harpswell, ME/Hebron Academy) tallied assists on the play.

Hamilton would tie the game, 1-1, at 4:34 in the second period when Laura DiCarlo found the back of the net off a dish from Meredith Bitterman. The Continentals outshot UC by one shot in each of the first two periods.

In the final period of regular play, each squad was penalized once and both had seven shots apiece to send the game into overtime.

Hamilton's Stephanie Lang scored the game-winner, unassisted, at 4:14 in overtime to end the contest.

Junior goalie Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) earned star status with 26 saves for UC, however, falls to 5-8 on the season.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday against conference foe Chatham University. The game will be held at Whitestown Community Center and is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
