Utica, N.Y. (4/13/2011) – The Utica College men's lacrosse team lost to visiting Ithaca College 20-2 in Empire 8 Conference action Wednesday afternoon at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. Sophomore
Justin Edelstein (Hartsdale, NY/Harvey School) and junior
William Greeley (Newton, MA/Newton North High) each netted one goal for the Pioneers, while senior captain
Kevin Conway (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and freshman
Tyler Gardinier (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) tallied one assist a piece.
Ithaca improved to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the E8, while the Pioneers dropped to 2-8 on the year and
remain winless, at 0-3, in conference play. 16 different players scored at least one point for the Bombers, including three players who tallied a game-high four points. Ithaca outshot UC 48-23 and earned a 26-18 ground ball advantage.
The Bombers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of action and went on to add four more goals before the half to take a commanding 10-0 advantage as the first half horn sounded.
The Bombers posted ten more second half goals and were able to hold the Pioneers to one goal in each of the third and fourth quarters to earn the convincing conference victory.
UC's
Oliver Barney (Vestal, NY/Vestal) went 9-of-18 on face-off opportunities and added a team-high five ground balls, while junior captain
Mick Krajacic (Clay, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) scooped up three ground balls and caused one turnover. Senior goalie
Joe Davis (Vestal, NY/Vestal) stopped six shots in 30 minutes of work and he also added four ground balls. Junior Wilson Mukredechian spent the entire second half between the pipes and stopped five shots for UC.
Ithaca's Andrew Bruce (one goal, three assists), Devin Weinshank (two goals, two assists) and Mike Silipo (three goals, one assist) each tallied four points, while Tom Mongelli added three goals. All-American goalie David Gal stopped nine shots in his sixth victory of the season for the Bombers.
