Utica, NY (4/15/11) – The Utica College baseball team lost 4-0 to Hamilton College Thursday in the 24th annual Jackie Robinson Game held at Hamilton College Baseball Field. Utica still holds the edge in the Jackie Robinson Game series, 13-11.

Freshman Terrence Reyes led the Pioneers with two hits and was named the Pioneers' most valuable player. Reyes went 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.

Sophomores Chris Podlucky (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) and Angel Zapata (Bronx, NY/Bronx Center for Science and Math) recorded doubles. Podlucky smacked his fourth double while Zapata cracked his first. Freshman Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) started on the mound and dropped to 0-4 on the season. Jeffers allowed two earned runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings. He walked three and fanned two.

The Pioneers loaded the bases in the top of the first with a double and two infield singles. However, Hamilton pitcher Colin Henneberger struck out the next three batters to escape the jam. The Continentals took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the inning via a Justin Atwood sacrifice fly.

The Continentals hit back-to-back singles in the seventh to maintain a 3-0 advantage. Mike Matt scored another in the bottom of the eight to seal the 4-0 victory.

Zapata doubled to deep left field for UC with one out in the ninth, but was stranded at third base as a ground ball to second ended the game.

UC drops to 2-18 overall and have a 1-3 mark in the Empire 8 Conference while the Continentals improve to 8-13 overall on the season.
Henneberger was selected as the Continentals' most valuable player after striking out seven to earn the victory.

The Pioneers return to action this weekend as they host conference rival Ithaca College. The double headers are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Utica College Baseball Field.
