Utica, N.Y. (4/14/2011) – The Utica College men's lacrosse team (2-8, 0-3) is set to host Empire 8 rival Alfred University (9-2, 1-2) Saturday at 4 p.m. UC is 6-4 against the Saxons all-time and they are 6-1 against them in their last seven matchups. Last year Utica defeated Alfred 10-8.

The Pioneers are led by freshman Scott Baron (Flemington, NJ/Cushing Academy) who has a team-best 16 points on seven goals and nine assists. Sophomore Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) and freshman TJ Benson (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) are the Pioneers top goal scorers with nine each. Winkler also has six assists.

Junior Oliver Barney (Vestal, NY/Vestal) has won 100-of-165 face-offs this season and he has contributed seven goals and four assists.

Junior Mick Krajacic (Clay, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) leads the Pioneer defense with 42 caused turnovers and he has 45 groundballs. Senior Matthew Crouse (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) and freshman Dan Duffy (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) are key contributors as well with 20 caused turnovers each. Crouse and Duffy each have one goal apiece.

Senior Joe Davis (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and junior Wilson Mukrdecian have split time in goal this season. Davis has a .524 save percentage while Mukrdecian has a 12.83 goals against average.

Utica is ranked first in the conference in caused turnovers per game with 14.44.

The Saxons started off their season 7-0 before losing two straight games to Nazareth and Stevens. However, they are currently riding a two-game winning streak. Senior Marc Zoyhofski leads Alfred in goals scored (33) and is second in the conference in goals per game (3.30). Their goalie Justin Becker has 6-2 record on the season to go along with a .551 save percentage.
