Utica, N.Y. (4/18/2011) – The Utica College baseball team lost a rain shortened Empire 8 Conference contest, 10-0, against visiting Ithaca College Monday afternoon. The game was called in the top half of the seventh inning. Ithaca scored all ten of its runs between the third and sixth innings to advance its overall record to 11-10 on the year.

The Pioneers (2-19, 1-4 Empire 8) mustered four hits in the contest from the bats of freshman Terrence Reyes, Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville), Ted Kreuger and Elvis Gonzalez. Senior pitcher Chris Pallas (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic School) started on the mound for the Pioneers and struck out one in five full innings of work.

After two scoreless innings the Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the third inning behind a sacrifice fly from David Ahonen, scoring Rob Zappia. Trevor Wolf reached base on a error by UC right fielder Angel Zappata to score Mike Rosenbaum. Teagan Barresi added a single to left, scoring Wolf, to put Ithaca up 3-0.

Five Ithaca hits led to four runs in the top of the third and the Bombers poured in three more runs over the course of the next two innings to earn its 10-0 lead. Ithaca would score four more run in the top of the seventh, but because the game was called during their seventh inning scoring barrage, all statistics were reverted back to the last completed inning, by rule.

Eight different players tallied at least one hit for the Bombers. Matt Keller went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Wolf finished the day going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ahonen went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored and Sean Weber added two hits on the day.

Pat Lemmo pitched all six scoreless innings for the Bombers and struck out five.

UC returns to action on Wednesday when the Pioneers host Oneonta at 3 p.m.
