Nazareth 21, Utica 2 - Box Score

Pittsford, N.Y. (4/6/2011) – The Utica College men's lacrosse team could not seem to get its offense going in a 21-2 loss to Empire 8 Conference foe Nazareth College Wednesday afternoon. UC's Matthew Crouse (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) and Justin Edelstein (Hartsdale, NY/Harvey School) each netted first half goals for the Pioneers' and goalies Joe Davis (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and Maxwell Warchol (West Hartford, CT/Hyde School) combined for 11 saves in the loss.

Utica's record dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Pioneers regular season schedule will continue with six straight conference contests, beginning with Ithaca College next Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Golden Flyers, who are traditionally one of the top teams in all of NCAA Division III men's lacrosse, have now won four in a row and improved to 7-2 overall (3-0 Empire 8).

Mick Krajacic (Clay, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) and Joe Davis (Vestal, NY/Vestal) each totaled a team-high four ground balls for UC, while freshman Dan Duffy (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) added two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Junior Oliver Barney (Vestal, NY/Vestal) won 7-of-15 face-off opportunities and also chipped in with two ground balls.

Crouse opened the scoring on the day with his first goal of the season just 36 seconds into the contest to give the Pioneers' an early 1-0 advantage. However, Nazareth answered with ten straight goals to put the contest out of reach.

The Golden Flyers outshot the Pioneers' 52-19 on the day and caused 27 turnovers. They were nearly perfect on the ride, executing 24-of-25 clear opportunities.

Naz was led by Nate DeLone's four goals and one assist, while Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar added three goals and one assist for the home team.
