Oswego Rallies Late to Top Pioneers 2-1

Utica, NY (9-10-11) – The Utica College women's soccer team lost 2-1 to host Oswego State Saturday in Oswego, NY. Junior Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham), UC's leading scorer, netted the Pioneers' lone goal.  With the score knotted at 1-1 late in the contest, the Lakers were able to convert on the game-winner with just over three minutes to play to hand the Pioneers their ssecond loss of the season.

After a scoreless first half of play, Utica came out and took a 1-0 lead 34 seconds into the second half. Spohler tallied her fourth goal of the season at 45:34 off a rebound following shot from the foot of senior Chelsea Way (Cuyler, NY/DeRuyter) to give the Pioneers a one goal afdvantage. 

The home team answered just over 15 minutes later at 60:54 as Laker Nikki Liadka converted off of a corner kick to tie the game at 1-1.

After 26 minutes of scoreless play, Oswego's Liadka found the back of the net for the game-winner as she tallied her second goal of the contest at 86:57.

Senior goalkeeper Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School) recorded five saves, while the Pioneers dropped to 1-2 overall on the year.  Oswego improved its ledger to 4-1 overall on the season.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they travel to Buffalo, NY to challenge D'Youville College. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. The Spartans are currently 1-1 overall this season.
