Jennifer Persio (Cheshire, CT/Tilton ) fought hard in first singles, but lost to Briana Palmiero by the scores of 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).

Andrea Schultheis (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) lost 8-4 in second doubles competition for Utica.
The Pioneers (0-1) return to action on Sunday when they host conference rival St. John Fisher College at the Utica College tennis courts. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Fisher is currently 2-0 overall this season after defeating Brockport State 5-4 in a match-up on Thursday afternoon.
