UTICA, NY (9-20-11)- The Utica College women's soccer team opens up Empire 8 Conference action Wednesday as it hosts Hartwick College at 7 p.m.
The Pioneers are currently 2-4 overall and are looking to rebound from two tough losses at the hands of Hamilton College and RPI. Hartwick (1-2) is coming off a 2-1 loss in double overtime to Oneonta.
UC is 2-2-2 against the Hawks dating back to 2005 and came away from Oneonta with a 1-1 tie last season.
Junior transfer
Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham) leads the team in goals (five), points (11), and shots on goal (12) through six games. Spohler currently sits atop the conference in goals and is second in scoring.
Sophomore
Sarah Southwell (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) has registered six points in six games so far.
Senior goalkeeper
Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School) has registered 33 saves and currently holds a 2.83 goals against average.
UC returns to action next Wednesday as they travel to Ithaca to take on the Bombers. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Nationally-ranked No. 22 Ithaca College is currently undefeated with a 4-0-1 record and a 1-0 mark in conference play. UC lost to the Bombers 6-0 last season.
