UC Falls at #14 Ithaca in Empire 8 Play

Utica, NY (9-28-11) - The Utica College women's soccer team (3-5, 1-1 Empire 8) lost 3-0 to Empire 8 rival and nationally ranked No. 14 Ithaca College (6-0-2, 2-0 Empire 8) Wednesday afternoon at Carp Wood Field. Senior Alyssa Upson (Frankfort, NY/Whitesboro), from nearby Whitesboro, had two of the Pioneers five shots including one on goal.

The home team jumped out to an early lead just over one minute into the contest when Rachael Palladino converted a cross pass from Caroline Jastremski at 1:12.  Palladino would go on to record a hat-trick as she helped IC continue their undefeated season.

UC would fend off the nationally-ranked Bombers for over 20 minutes before Palladino netted her seventh goal of the season off a pass from Ellyn Grant-Keane at 23:10. 

Ithaca scored again at 53:39 as Palladino concluded her three-goal performance to secure the Bomber's sixth victory of the season.  IC moved into a first place tie with Elmira College in E8 play as they improved to 2-0.

Senior Chelsea Way (Cuyler, NY/DeRuyter) registered two shots while sophomore Samantha Matthews (Valley Falls, NY/Tamarac) fired one on goal as UC is drops to 1-1 and third place in the Empire 8.  

The Pioneers retrun to action Saturday as they host Stevens Institute of Technology at the Utica College Soccer Field.  The E8 Conference match-up is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.  The Ducks are currenlty 5-3-2 overall including a 0-0-1 mark in conference play.
