SPOHLER MAKING AN INSTANT IMPACT: Junior transfer
Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham) leads the way for the Pioneers with 14 points on six goals and two assists this season… Spohler ranks second in the conference with an average of 1.75 points per contest ... She was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks after she played a part in the Pioneers' final two goals as the UC came from behind to earn a 4-3 Empire 8 Conference victory over Hartwick College last Wednesday night.
SOUTHWELL COMING ON STRONG: Sophomore
Sarah Southwell (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) ranks second on the team with three goals and three assists ... She netted a career-high two goals in the Pioneers' 6-1 win over local rival SUNYIT on Sept. 8 … She added one goal and one assist in the Pioneers' 4-3 win over Hartwick on her way to earning the College's Female Athlete of the Week Award … Scoring has come in bunches for Southwell as she has registered at least two points in three different games this year.
BENOIT IS MAKING HER PRESENCE FELT: Former Empire 8 All-Conference selection
Jill Benoit (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) netted one goal in the Pioneers' win over Hartwick and she now has two goals an one assist this season … She also netted one goal in UC's 4-2 win over D'Youville on Sept. 14 … She added her lone assist of the season in the Pioneers' win over SUNYIT.
WAY BRINGS SENIOR LEADERSHIP & PRODUCTION: Senior midfielder
Chelsea Way (Cuyler, NY/DeRuyter) ranks third on the team with seven points this season … She netted the game-winner late in the contest to help UC defeat Hartwick ... Her best game of the season came in the Pioneers' win over SUNTIT when she tallied four points on one goal and two assists.
GLOCKLING PROVING SHE'S NOT JUST A HOCKEY PLAYER: Senior goalie
Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School), who is using her last semester of eligibility on the women's soccer team this fall, has started all eight games for UC … The four year member of the UC women's hockey team now has 55 saves on the soccer field … She is coming off a career-best 14 save performance against Ithaca College on Wednesday night … She has allowed two goals or less in three games this year.
AGAINST STEVENS: Last season, UC was dealt a 4-0 loss in Hoboken, NJ against the Ducks ... The last time these two teams met at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium the Pioneers' lost 3-1 against Stevens … The Pioneers are now 0-4 all-time against the Ducks … Two of those losses came by just one goal in 2007 and 2008.
SCOUTING STEVENS: The Ducks are currently 5-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in Empire 8 Conference play … They have outscored their opponents 17-9 over the course of ten games … 11 different Ducks have at least one point so far this season … Freshman Ann Hein leads the way for Stevens with 11 points on a team-best five goals and one assist … Bridgette Barden and Kathleen Schuckers both have eight points so far this season … Shuckers has a team-high six assists … Defense has been a key for Stevens so far this season and their goalies have combined for a goals against average of 0.83 … The Ducks only Empire 8 game of the season resulted in a 1-1 tie against Nazareth.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Pioneers return to action Sunday when they travel to Union College for a non-conference match up ... The contest against the Dutchwomen is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
