Honors Continue to Roll in for Dunn & Mitchell

ECAC Release

Utica, N.Y. (1/10/12) – Senior punter Seth Mitchell (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) and junior tight end Matt Dunn (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) of the Utica College football team were named to the 2011 ECAC North All Star Team Tuesday.  Mitchell garnered first team recognition, while Dunn was named to the second team.  The voting was done by the coaches or their designee in the ECAC Division III North Region membership.

Mitchell, from Fonda, NY, was named to first team special teams unit as a punter.  He was also a d3football.com All-East Region Third Team selection and an Empire 8 All-Conference First Team pick.   He doubled as UC's place kicker and kickoff man to go along with his punting responsibilities.  He averaged 40.8 yards per punt this past season.  He ranks second on the College's all-time list for yards per punt.  This season, Mitchell made eight field goals and 30 extra points.  He finished the year ranked second on the team in scoring (54 points) and he placed 12 punts inside the twenty yard line.  He also kicked a career-long 62 yard punt and averaged 54 yards per kickoff.

Dunn, a native of Miller Place, NY, was named to the second team after posting an impressive junior campaign.  He was a second team d3football.com all-region selection and he was also named to the all-conference first team after leading all Empire 8 tight ends in receptions (48), yards (602) and yards per game (60.2).  He finished the season with 602 receiving yards and 48 catches.  Dunn now has 81 catches for 957 yards in three seasons and he also has eight touchdown catches, which are both program-records for tight ends, eclipsing the marks set by former all-conference first-team tight end Brian Barth '05.

The Pioneers finished the season with an overall record of 5-5 and a 2-5 mark in the Empire 8, the best conference record for the program since 2008.
