Utica, N.Y. (1/19/2012) – The Utica College men's basketball team is set to host a pair of Empire 8 Conference opponents at the Harold T. Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium this weekend. Alfred University travels to UC on Friday night for an 8 p.m. tip-off. The Soaring Eagles of Elmira College hit the hardwood on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Pioneers at 4 p.m.
UC Update: The Pioneers (4-11, 0-4 Empire 8) hope to snap a five game losing streak on Friday night against the Saxons … After winning three of its first four contests, Utica has fallen upon hard times, dropping 10 of its last 11 games … A win Friday would save the Pioneers from posting their longest losing streak of the season … Junior Matt Balwdin leads UC with an average of 15.6 points per contest … He has a team-high 39 3-pointers this season … Junior

Getting to Know the Saxons: Alfred (9-4, 2-2 Empire 8) has won six of its last eight games … They are coming off a dominating 76-62 win over St. John Fisher College last Saturday … They are in the midst of a five game road trip … Josh Parker leads the team with an average of 14.3 points per contest … Parker also has a team-high 33 steals and he ranks second on the team with 6.2 rebounds per contest.

Late Time Against Elmira: James Patterson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) '11 scored a game-high 31 points, including eight straight free throws down the stretch, as the Utica College men's basketball team defeated host Elmira College 57-55 on Feb. 15, 2011 … The Pioneers led by as many as 11 midway through the second half, but the Soaring Eagles stormed back in the final five minutes to keep the game close … UC is 11-1 against Elmira over the course of the last six years.
