ITHACA, N.Y. – The Utica College women's basketball team could not seem to get its offense going in a 61-29 loss to Empire 8 Conference rival Ithaca College Tuesday night at Ben Light Gymnasium. Junior forward Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) led the Pioneers with 14 points and ten rebounds as they moved their record to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

The Bomber (15-3, 7-0 Empire 8) defense forced 24 Pioneer turnovers -- including five shot-clock violations (all in the first half). Utica was held scoreless until the 9:45 mark, having recorded seven missed shots and seven turnovers before scoring a point.

UC could only manage eight first half points as the home squad earned a 29-8 lead at the half.  Ithaca kept the pressure on in the second half, outscoring UC by 11 points in the final 20 minutes to remain perfect in conference play.

Utica made a season-low nine field goals on the afternoon.  Katie McGee (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth) and Alyssa Filkins (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) each added five points for the Pioneers, while sophomore Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) posted three points off the bench for UC.

Sophomore forward Jenn Escobido notched her sixth career double-double, leading Ithaca with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Junior center Devin Shea added eight points; she and sophomore guard Elisabeth Wentlent both had a team-high four steals. As a team Ithaca pilfered a season-high 18 steals.

The Pioneers return to action on Friday night at home when they host Hartwick College for a conference contest at 6 p.m.
