Neumann Comes to Town for a Pair of Key ECAC West Games

Utica, NY (1-24-12) – The Utica College women's hockey team is set to host Neumann University this weekend for a pair of ECAC Women's West games at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Puck-Drop:  The puck is scheduled to drop on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. before both teams return to the ice at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the friendly confines of the Aud.

Pioneer Report: The Pioneers currently hold a 6-8-2 overall record and a 3-5-2 mark in ECAC Women's West play … UC is 3-2-2 in its last seven games with its two losses coming by way of one goal defeats against nationally-ranked opponents, No. 12 Manhattanville and No. 4 Middlebury … Four of Utica's eight losses this season have come by one goal.

Weekend Draw:  Utica and SUNY Potsdam squared off last weekend in a home-and-home series on Saturday and Sunday … Both games resulted in a tie, with the Bears coming from behind at home to tie the Pioneers, 3-3, before UC battled back to earn a 4-4 draw at the Aud on Sunday… Sophomore Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) led the Pioneers with two goals and three assists over the weekend.

Myers Movement: Myers, a Las Vegas, Nevada native, is making a name for herself in the DIII national statistics report … She is now seventh nationally in assists and eighth in points after a five point showing this past weekend against Potsdam … The sophomore forward now has 24 points on nine goals and 15 assists, moving up from 12th in assists and 13th in points.

Team Points: Junior Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) is second on the stat report with 11 points on three scores and eight assists … Freshman classmates Nicole Schwartz (Danville, CA/San Jose Sharks) and Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) are third and fourth on the team in points scored ... Schwartz has tallied ten points on three goals and seven assists and Steele-Norton has nine points on two goals and seven assists.

Scoring Leaders: Junior Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA/Washington Pride) and sophomore Brittany DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA/The Winchendon School) are second in goals, behind Myers, each with five goals and three assists … The pair are tied for fifth in points with eight on the season.

Introducing the Knights: Neumann is currently 4-9-2 overall including a ECAC West mark of 3-7-2 this season … After losing two straight to No. 3 Elmira College, by a score of 4-1 each night, the Knights swept Cortland State this past weekend in shut-out fashion, 7-0 and 4-0, at home … NU and UC are currently tied for sixth in the ECAC standings, both with eight points.

Next Weekend: Following the weekend set, the Pioneers will travel to Pittsburgh, PA next Saturday for a pair of conference games against Chatham University ... Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday night and 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon … The Cougars are currently 0-10 overall.
