Women's Soccer Falls at Hartwick

Junior Caitlyn Smith recorded five saves on the day
Box Score Oneonta, NY (10/20/12)- The Utica College women's soccer team lost a nail biter Saturday as it fell to Empire 8 opponent, Hartwick College, 1-0.

After a scoreless first half, Hartwick was able to put one in the net in the 75th minute as senior Emily Thorndike scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season.  Thorndike received a throw in from freshman Stephanie Morini and fired a shot passed Utica goalkeeper, Caitlyn Smith (Waterville, NY/Madison).

That was all the Hawks needed, as they were able to hold on for the win.

Smith had five saves on the day, while Senior Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham) led UC with two shots.

Hartwick improves to 6-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the Empire 8, while UC drops to 6-9 on the season with a 0-8 mark in the conference.

The Pioneers return to action Tuesday as they host cross-town rival, Hamilton College on Tuesday.  Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Utica College's grass soccer field.
