Mackey's Late Goal Lifts Pioneers to 11th Win of the Year

Sophomore Hannah Mackey netted the game-winner with 55 seconds left for UC
Box Score Utica, NY (10/20/12)- The Utica College women's field hockey team took down the 7-6 Houghton Highlanders 3-2 on the turf at Burke Field on Saturday improving their record to 11-4. Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) scored the winning goal with less than a minute to play.

The Pioneers' first goal came unassisted at 9:47 from sophomore midfielder Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) for her fifth goal on the season.

The Highlanders would strike right back just under four minutes later with a goal of their own tying the score at one. However, Utica would not be denied and scored again just prior to the half at 33:51. Angela Charles (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) netted her only goal of the game off an assist from freshman forward, Olivia Plaisted (Hampden, ME/Hampden Academy).

Houghton's Ashley Engle tied it up again 2-2 at 46:47 in the competition. Mackey capped off the scoring with her 11th goal of the season was scored at 69:05.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday at 4:00p.m. when they travel to Oneonta State's All College Track and Field to face the 9-6 Red Dragons in non-conference play.
