Naz Sprints Past UC in Empire 8 Showdown

Box Score Pittsford, NY (10/7/2012) - The Nazareth College women's soccer team kept the offensive pressure on the entire contest as the Golden Flyers earned a convincing 5-0 victory over visiting Utica College Sunday afternoon. Olivia Derleth netted the first three goals of the afternoon for the home squad, while senior converted goalie Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) made a career-best 21 saves in net for the Pioneers (6-6, 0-5 Empire 8).  Naz improved its record to 7-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.

Ashtin Argentieri and Kristina McCann each added second half insurance goals for the Golden Flyers, while five different players registered assists for the home squad. 

The Pioneers were coming off a disappointing 4-3 loss at the hands of visiting St. John Fisher College on Saturday.  UC led 3-0 midway through the second half against the Cardinals. 

After winning six of its first seven games, the Pioneers have now lost five in a row to even their record at 6-6 on the year. 

Senior forward Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham) registered the lone shot of the day for the Pioneers against the Golden Flyers. 

UC returns to the field on Saturday when it travels to Stevens Institute of Technology hoping to snap its five game conference skid.  The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at DeBaun Field.
