Meghan Fiore (Epping, NH/Epping) tallied her second double-double of the season after totaling 20 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Utica College women's basketball team fell to Hamilton College 62-49 Saturday afternoon.
The Continentals jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first 6:47 of the contest and did not look back as they cruised to their second victory of the year. Madie Harlem had a game-high 22 points and Samantha Graber chipped in with ten points of her own to pace Hamilton.
Fiore was 9-for-13 from the floor and added two free throws, while junior
Alyssa Filkins (Castleton, NY/Maple Hill) had a team-best four assists to lead UC. With 20 points on the day, Fiore moved into sixth place on the College's all-time scoring list (1,210 points)
Sophomore
Samantha Stayer (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone) was second on the team with nine points and added five boards, and freshman
Mary Miceli (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) grabbed eight rebounds of her own. Junior
Bridget Greenwald (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) had eight points and snagged two balls off the glass, while
Christy Traglia (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) and
Kelcei Edmonds (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) were each 2-for-2 from the line.
Hamilton improves to 2-3, while UC falls to 3-3 on the season. The Pioneers return to action Tuesday as they travel to Oneonta, NY to open up Empire 8 Conference play against Hartwick College. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
