Utica, NY (12/6/12)- The Utica College women's ice hockey team is set for a big non-conference set this weekend as it takes on cross-town rival Hamilton College and perennial power, Amherst College. UC faces Hamilton Saturday at 4 p.m. before taking on Amherst Sunday at 3 p.m. Both games will take place at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Last Time Out: Utica is coming off a 3-0 win over Williams College on Nov. 30… Junior
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) had two goals, and freshman
Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) added two helpers for the Pioneers… Senior
Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) scored her second goal of the season and
Meghan Willett (Worcester, MA/Cushing Academy),
Lindsay Norton (Eden, NY/Buffalo Bisons),
Samantha Pucci (Pearl River, NY/Connecticut Polar Bears) and
Nicole Kieffer (Rome, NY/Lysander Lightning) also added assists in the game… Junior
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) made 19 saves for her first shutout of the season.
Four is The Magic Number: Utica is 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the ECAC West Conference… The Pioneers are currently in fourth place in the conference standings, four points behind Oswego… Four of the Pioneers opponents are ranked in the top ten in the nation in the latest USCHO.com coaches' poll… Conference opponent, Plattsburgh State is ranked No. 1, while Elmira is ranked fifth.

Between the Pipes: Junior
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) has started six games this season and has compiled a 4-2 record… She holds a .904 save percentage, 1.98 goals against average and one shutout.
Scouting Hamilton: The Continentals are 5-2 (2-2 NESCAC) and are coming off a 4-2 win over Potsdam on Tuesday… Hamilton is led by senior Katie Zimmerman who has a team-high nine goals and ten points on the season.
Against the Continentals: UC is 7-5-2 against Hamilton dating back to the 2003-2004 season… Six of the 15 meetings have gone to overtime… Last year Utica beat and tied the Continentals… Myers totaled three goals and two assists while Hamel had 68 total saves in the series.
Scouting Amherst: The Lord Jeffs are 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the NESCAC… They are coming off a 4-2 loss to Trinity on Wednesday… Amherst is led by senior Geneva Lloyd and sophomore Tori Salmon… Lloyd has five goals and two assists while Salmon has one goal and six helpers.
Against the Lord Jeffs: Utica is 3-1-1 against Amherst dating back to the 2003-04 season… The last meeting between the teams was a 6-5 Amherst victory on Feb. 17, 2011.
