UTICA, NY (2-8-12)- The Utica College women's ice hockey team looks to build off of its success as of late when it hosts ECAC West opponent and nationally ranked No. 5 Plattsburgh State.
Game Time: The teams will faceoff at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Where We Sit: The Pioneers are currently in seventh place in the ECAC West with an overall record of 8-10-3 and 5-7-2 in the conference… UC is coming off two conference wins at Chatham University and a 2-2 tie at cross-town rival Hamilton College.
Leading the Way: Sophomore
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) leads the team in goals (13), assists (18), and points (31)… She is currently tied for fifth in the nation in points, and seventh in assists… Myers has seven goals and six assists in her last eight games and is averaging 1.48 goals per game.
Sophomore's Stepping Up: The sophomore class has accounted for 25 of the Pioneers 51 goals this season… Five different members of the class have scored at least one goal…
Brittany DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA/The Winchendon School) is third on the team with five goals scored… She also has three assists… Classmates
Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride),
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Boston Jr. Shamrocks), and
Kristen Beckman (Arnold, MD/Northwood School) have also netted goals… Tice and Maines have each scored three goals, while Beckman has contributed one tally.
Helping Out: Junior
Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) ranks second on the team in assists (11) and points (15)…
Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA/Washington Pride) and
Nicole Schwartz (Danville, CA/San Jose Sharks) each have 11 points and
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) is fifth on the team with ten points.
Shutting the Door: Goalies
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) and
Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) have both been strong between the pipes… The duo has allowed just two goals in the last three games… Hamel has a .932 save percentage, a 2.17 goals-against average, and three shutouts in 15 games played this year… Hotaling has compiled a .925 save percentage to go along with her 2.51 goals-against average in six games played.
Scouting Plattsburgh: The Cardinals currently sit atop the ECAC West with a conference record of 13-1-2… Their lone loss came by way of a 2-1 defeat by Elmira on January 29… UC fell 3-2 and 7-0 to the Cardinals last season.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers return to the Aud for the last games of the regular season as they host Buffalo State Feb. 17 and 18… Game time is 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday.
