St. Davids, Pa. – The Eastern University men's lacrosse team used consistent scoring – three goals in each quarter – to hand Utica College its first loss of the young season, 12-6, Tuesday afternoon. Utica junior attacker
Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) kept his scoring streak alive (12 goals in three games) as he netted a hat-trick for the visiting Pioneers (2-1).
UC made a late charge, scoring three goals in the final quarter, but it proved to be too late as the Eagles (3-2) soared to a six goal victory. Senior
Oliver Barney (Vestal, NY/Vestal) added a season-high two goals and one assist for the Pioneers, while junior
Justin Edelstein (Hartsdale, NY/Harvey School) ripped home his fourth goal of the season in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Pioneers trailed 6-2 at the half behind two first half goals from the stick of Winkler.
Greg Geiss (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) and Barney assisted on Winkler's first half tallies.
Barney netted goal midway through the third quarter, assisted by sophomore
Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), but that was all the scoring UC would get in the quarter as they trailed 9-3 headed into the final stanza.
Edlestein opened the fourth with a man-up goal and Barney kept the momentum going just eight seconds later to cut UC's deficit in half, 10-5. Eastern proved to have every answer for the Pioneers' comeback as the Eagles' netted two straight goals to seal the victory.

Joe Davis (Vestal, NY/Vestal) made a season-high 14 saves in net for the Pioneers, while senior defender
Mick Krajacic (Clay, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) added five ground balls, three caused turnovers and he went a perfect 4-for-4 on face-off attempts. Barney also scooped up four ground balls and went 3-for-4 on face-offs. Senior defender
Dennis Timmons (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore) chipped in with two caused turnovers.
The Pioneers remain on the road on Thursday when they travel to Neumann University to take on the Knights at 4 p.m.
