Box Score Utica 19, Neuman 11 - Final

Ashton, Pa. – The Utica College men's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 overall after a convincing 19-11 victory over Neumann University Thursday afternoon. The Pioneers outscored the Knights 9-3 in the second half and junior Justin Edelstein (Hartsdale, NY/Harvey School) netted a career-high four goals in the UC victory.  Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) continued his hot streak as he netted five goals and added three assists.  Winkler now has a team-best 17 goals through just four games this season.

After trailing 4-3 at the end of the first quarter, the Pioneers exploded for seven goals in the second quarter to take a 10-8 lead at halftime. Utica scored five goals in the first 2:53 of the second half to take a 8-4 advantage.  Edelstein scored just ten seconds into the second quarter and he also added a goal at the 12:07 ledger to close out the five goal outburst.

Winkler and Edelstein opened up the second half with two goals to help UC put the game out of reach.  The Pioneers outscored the home team 5-0 in the final quarter to earn the eight goal victory. 

Senior Oliver Barney (Vestal, NY/Vestal) netted three goals and added two assists for Utica, while junior transfer Trent Thomas (Akwesasne, ONT/Massena) netted three goals and two assists of his own. Freshman Zach Stevenson collected a career-high two goals as Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) added one goal and two assists. Senior defender Mick Krajacic (Clay, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) scooped up a team-best eight ground balls. 

Senior Joe Davis (Vestal, NY/Vestal) made a season-high 19 stops as he registered his third win of the year for Utica.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday when they travel to Vassar to take on the Brewers at 1 p.m.
