Utica Looks to Tie Best Start in Program-History at Oswego Wednesday

UC men's lacrosse hopes match the best start in program-history with a win at Oswego on Wednesday night
Utica, NY (3/20/12)- The Utica College men's lacrosse team looks to continue it's hot start as they hit the road and take on SUNY Oswego Wednesday at 4.p.m.

Last week the Pioneers went 2-1 as they lost to Eastern University 12-6, before beating Neumann University 19-11, and Vassar College, 13-12, on late goal.

Man on Fire: Junior midfielder Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) has been nothing short of impressive for the Pioneers this season … In four games Winkler has a team-best 27 points on 23 goals and four dishes …  He has been named Empire 8 Player of the week two times so far this season … Winkler tied a career-high with eight goals against Cazenovia earlier this season.

Fitting Right In: Junior transfer Trent Thomas (Akwesasne, ONT/Massena) seems to be getting along just fine with his new team … Thomas ranks first on the team in assists (nine), and second in goals (nine), and points (18).

All-American Effort: Senior captain Mick Krajacic (Clay, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) has been playing lights out on the defensive side of the ball for the Pioneers this season … In four games Krajacic has caused 19 turnovers, and scooped up 26 ground balls.

Duo Between the Pipes: Senior classmates Joe Davis (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and Wilson Mukrdechian (Watertown, NY/Watertown) have been very consistent between the pipes this season … Davis is 3-1 in four games for UC, and he is averaging nine saves per game, with a save percentage of .590 … In his first start of the season against Vassar College, Mukrdechian had nine saves while facing 34 shots in a win.

Oswego State: The Oswego State Lakers have gotten off to a fine start themselves as they are 4-0 this season … The Lakers are led by freshman Cody Hoose, who ranks first on the team in points (14), assists (eight), and second on the team in goals (six) … Last season the Pioneers dropped a heartbreaking double overtime thriller to the Lakers, losing 7-6.

Next Up: UC returns from its four game road trip on Saturday when it takes on Kings College at 1 p.m.
