Utica, NY (3-27-12) – The Utica College baseball team is set to host its season home opener Wednesday against Oswego State University.

First Pitch: The twilight double header will be held at the Utica College Baseball Field with game one scheduled for 2 p.m.

Pioneers on the Diamond:  UC is currently 1-11 overall and is coming off its first win of the season Sunday against Widener University … Utica won game one 6-2 as sophomore Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) tossed a complete game allowing no earned runs with five strikeouts … The Pioneers lost game two 3-1 … Six of their11 losses have come by three runs or less.

Dunbar's Lumber:  Junior Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville) is currently the Empire 8 Player of the Week and is leading the Pioneer offense in almost every category … The first baseman from Granville, NY, drove in five of Utica's six runs in the Pioneers' 15-6 loss to Rutgers-Camden, Saturday … He totaled three hits, including one double, one run scored, had five RBI, and one stolen base as UC went 1-2 last week … Dunbar currently leads the team with a .361 batting average, 16 RBI, 13 hits and six runs scored.

Choleva Chasing: Sophomore pitcher/centerfielder Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) has accompanied Dunbar at the plate as he is second in all the major offensive categories … Choleva is hitting .324 with 12 hits, six runs and five RBI while leading the rotation …  On the mound, he has a team-high 16 innings pitched, 13 strikeouts and one complete game in his three starts.

New Additions: Freshmen Thomas Dinnen (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas ) and Vincent Burillo (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central ) have stepped right in and aided the Utica offense … Dinnen, UC's every day catcher, has started 10-of-12 games in his first year campaign … His .286 average, .333 slugging and .375 on base percentages are all good enough for third on the squad … Burillo, who pitches and plays infield, has competed in six games thus far and recorded a .313 batting average including five hits, two runs scored and an RBI … He drove in UC's only run last game in the seventh inning with a two-out single ending any hopes of a Widener shut out.

Laker's Scout Report: Oswego State presently holds a 5-9 overall record with five of those losses coming by just one run … The Lakers are coming off a 6-0 loss to Ithaca College on Sunday in Ithaca, NY … Last season, Oswego finished 19-20 overall while going 1-17 in the SUNYAC.

Back on the Field: Utica returns to action this weekend as it opens up Empire 8 Conference play on the road against St. John Fisher College ... The double headers will be held at Dugan Yard on Fisher campus with first pitch set for 1 p.m. both days … The Cardinals are currently 11-4 this season.
