UC Lax Looks to Get Back on Track on Senior Day

Utica, NY (4-19-12) - The Utica College men's lacrosse team returns to its home turf Saturday for its final home game of the season as they welcome the Elmira Soaring Eagles.

Game Time: The game wil held at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium with opening faceoff scheduled for 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: UC dropped its second straight game, against a nationally-ranked opponent, this past weekend as No. 24 Ithaca College ran away with a 13-6 victory...  Junior classmates Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) and Trent Thomas (Akwesasne, ONT/Massena) each netted two goals to lead the way for the Pioneers.

Recognizing Seniors: Before the game, Utica will be honoring its seniors for all the hard work and effort that have put forth for the program...  This year's class includes Dennis Timmons (Central Square, NY/Paul V. Moore), Joe Davis (Vestal, NY/Vestal), Zachary Menapace (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), Mick Krajacic (Clay, NY/Cicero North Syracuse), William Greeley (Newton, MA/Newton North High), Oliver Barney (Vestal, NY/Vestal), and Wilson Mukrdechian.

Offensive Specialists: Juniors classmates Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) and Trent Thomas (Akwesasne, ONT/Massena) have been the backbone for the Pioneer offense this season...  They rank first and second on the team in goals, points, and shots...  Winkler ranks first on the team, and in the conference, with 56 points and 45 goals, and third on the team with 11 assists...  Thomas ranks first on the team with 19 assists and second on the team with 41 points and 22 goals.

Defensive Leader: Senior preseason All-American Mick Krajacic (Clay, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) has been living up to expectations this season...  In 13 games, he has caused 48 turnovers while ranking third in the Empire 8 in ground balls, scooping up 5.18 per game.
 
Soaring Eagles Scout Report:  Elmira College  (3-7 overall, 0-4 Empire 8) started out the year on a three game winning streak, but since then has lost seven straight...  Against nationally ranked No. 12 Stevens on Wednesday, Elmira was dominated in every facet of the game, losing 20-5... The Soaring Eagles are led by sophomore midfielder David Evert, who leads the team in goals (27), assists (18), and points (54)...  Last season Utica let an early lead slip away as Elmira came out on top, 11-7.

Conference Standings:  Nationally ranked No. 24 Ithaca College (9-4 overall, 4-0 Empire 8) sits atop the standings in the E8...  There is a three-way tie for second between nationally ranked No. 12 Stevens (11-2 overall, 3-1 Empire 8), St. John Fisher (9-3 overall, 3-1 Empire 8) and Nazareth (6-7 overall, 3-1 Empire 8)...  Utica (7-6 overall, 2-3 Empire 8) currently sits on the bubble in fifth with the top four teams all presently holding a spot...  The bottom rounds out with Hartwick (5-6 overall, 1-3 Empire 8) in sixth, Alfred (4-9 overall, 1-4 Empire 8) in seventh and Elmira (3-7, 0-4 Empire 8) in the final spot. 

Next Time Out: The Pioneers return to the field Wednesday, April 25, when they travel across town to take on local rival Hamilton College...  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
