Utica, NY (4/3/12) – The Utica College Men's lacrosse team returns home Wednesday as it faces off against Hartwick College at 4 p.m.
Where We Sit: UC is currently 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8 Conference… The Pioneers are coming off a 10-9 loss at Potsdam on Saturday… Junior
Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) led the way for UC with six goals, while classmate
Trent Thomas (Akwesasne, ONT/Massena) had two goals and two assists.
Juniors Leading the Way: Classmates
Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC),
Trent Thomas (Akwesasne, ONT/Massena) and
Justin Edelstein (Hartsdale, NY/Harvey School) head the UC attack… The trio has accounted for 62 of the team's 106 goals… Winkler is second in the conference averaging 3.43 goals per game… Thomas is tied for seventh with 1.71 assists per game, while Edelstein leads the league with three game winning goals.
Middies Doing Work: Midfielders
Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro),
Oliver Barney (Vestal, NY/Vestal), and
Scott Baron (Flemington, NJ/Cushing Academy) rank fourth to sixth on the team in scoring… Schoen is currently fourth with 17 points, on six goals and 11 assists, while Barney has nine goals and seven assists, and Baron has netted five goals and added eight helpers.
Big D: Senior
Mick Krajacic (Clay, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) and Sophomore
Dan Duffy (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) have been rock solid for the Utica defense… Krajacic has collected 46 ground balls and caused 34 turnovers, while Duffy ranks third on the team with 10 caused turnovers, and fifth in ground balls (23).
Between the Pipes: Seniors
Joe Davis (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and
Wilson Mukrdechian (Watertown, NY/Watertown) have split time in net for UC… Davis is 3-3 while recording 57 saves and a .543 save percentage… Mukrdechian is 2-1 on the season and has compiled a .495 save percentage.
Scouting Hartwick: The Hawks are currently 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference… They are coming off a 9-8 loss to St. John Fisher on Saturday… UC is 2-4 against Hartwick dating back to 2006…Last year the Pioneers fell 11-7… Zach Menapace led the way with one goal and two assists, while Winkler added two goals of his own.
Looking Ahead: UC returns to the field Saturday as it continues conference play at Alfred University…The game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
