The Utica College baseball team is set to host Hamilton College on Wednesday, April 11th in the 25th annual Jackie Robinson game. Utica College leads the all-time series 13-11 in the annual contest, which dates back to 1987.

Game Time Changed: The contest will now begin at 4 p.m. as opposed to its original start time of 3:30 p.m.

Herbert Thorpe: The contest, which is sponsored annually by the Mohawk Valley Frontiersmen, will feature a first-pitch from former Tuskegee Airman Herbert Thorpe. Thorpe attended Tuskegee Army Air Field Flight School from 1944-1945.  He was a commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Navigator/Bombardier in December 1944 at Midland Army Air Field in Texas.  He then returns to the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama and earned B-25 (Twin Engine) Pilot's Wings in October of 1945.  Thorpe is also the past president and current secretary of the Mohawk Valley Frontiersmen.

Tuskegee Airmen: The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American military aviators in the United States armed forces.

25th Anniversary: Each team will dawn special 25th anniversary Jackie Robinson Game batting t-shirts, which feature the No. 42 on the back, throughout batting practice.  Legendary Los Angeles Dodger Jackie Robinson, who made history in 1947 by becoming the first black baseball player in the major leagues, wore the No. 42 throughout his Hall of Fame career.

Utica: The Pioneers are currently 3-17 overall and they are coming off a 1-2 weekend against Stevens Institute of Technology in Empire 8 Conference action at the UC baseball field. Junior Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville) leads the team with a .338 batting average and a team-best 21 RBIs.  UC's latest victory came on Friday evening when the Pioneers rallied to earn a thrilling 10-9 victory over the Ducks.

Hamilton: Hamilton College (3-15) is led by Sam Fuentes, who has a .365 batting average thus far.  Fuentes has a team-best 10 RBIs, and 10 steals on the season.  The Continentals are currently on an eight game losing streak as they were swept this past weekend by SUNYIT.  They face Cazenovia in a double header Monday afternoon before traveling to Utica Wednesday.

Last season Hamilton shut the Pioneers out, 4-0, in the 24th annual Jackie Robinson Game.  The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
