Pioneers Wrap Up Season at Ithaca

Utica, NY (5-4-12) – The Utica College baseball team wraps up its 2012 season this weekend on the road against Ithaca College.

Time & Place: Saturday's nine-inning game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. while Sunday's double header is set to begin at noon...  The games will be held at Freeman Field on the campus of Ithaca College.

The Pioneers: UC currently holds an overall record of 10-26 including a 2-12 mark in the Empire 8 Conference…  After a rough 1-16 start, UC has put together nine wins, including two double header sweeps over Clarkson and Keuka.

Downing the Storm: Utica is coming off a two wins on the road against Keuka College… UC put up 25 runs beating the Storm 15-7 in game one and 10-4 in game two…  Junior Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville) smacked two homers in game one and totaled four hits, four runs and six RBI on the day.

UC Bats: Dunbar continued his hot bat against Keuka as he moved his season average to .355 while remaining the team leader in hits (43), RBI (37), doubles (nine) and home runs (four)…  Sophomore Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) had a big day against the Storm as well registering four hits, seven RBI and two runs scored… Choleva is batting .280 while leading UC with 26 runs scored.

The Rotation: Choleva (2-4) is leading the way with 52 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts while classmate Chris Jeffers (Albany, NY/Bishop Maginn) (3-4) has 47.2 innings and 15 strikeouts… Freshman Sean McNeil (Riverside, NJ/) (2-5) recorded his second win of the season against Keuka while senior Matt Zitt (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) (1-2) won his first game of the year in game two.

Bombers Scouting Report: Ithaca College is currently 23-8-1 overall while posting an 11-4 record in the Empire 8… The Bombers have won five straight and 12 of their last 16… IC is 9-1-1 on its home field this season… Four of Ithaca's eight loses have come by one run defeats.
