Jennifer Persio teamed up with Rose Zaloom to earn a point for Utica in second doubles

Utica, NY (Sept. 15, 2012) - The Utica College women's tennis team lost its third consecutive contest of the season on Saturday as it dropped a home match against Empire 8 Conference for Elmira College, 8-1.
Jennifer Persio (Cheshire, CT/Tilton ) and
Rose Zaloom (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) teamed up in second doubles to earn the Pioneers' lone point of the afternoon. Persio and Zaloom topped the Soaring Eagles' Stephanie Tock and Kayla Fitzgerald by the score of 8-5.
Persio also put up a good fight in third singles, but lost to Stephanie Tock 7-5, 5-7, 10-7. UC's
Melanie Guzman (Augosta, ME/Cony ) won the first set in first singles, 7-5, but Elmira's Melanie Walker came back with two straight 6-1, 6-1 set victories to take the match.
Guzman teamed up with
Heather Brisson (Azusa, CA/Azusa) in first singles and narrowly lost to Walker and Ayaka Yoshino, 8-3.
The Pioneers return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to St. John Fisher College for an Empire 8 Conference contest scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
