Utica, NY (9/18/12)- The Utica College field hockey team looks to bounce back, Wednesday as it hosts SUNY Geneseo for a 4 p.m. non-conference contest.

Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) and
Angela Charles (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored for UC, while classmate
Olivia Cunningham (Bethlehem, NH/Profile) made nine saves in the loss.

Where We Sit: Utica is currently 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8 Conference… There are seven conference and five non-conference games left this season… Utica has averaged 22.4 shots per game while allowing just 6.4 shots against through five games and has scored 21 goals while giving up just six goals against.
Leading the Way: Sophomores
Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) and
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) are again leading the team in scoring… Mackey sits atop the Empire 8 with 16 points (six goals, four assists) while Steele-Norton is tied for first on the team with six goals and leads the conference with 31 shots on goal… Both are tied for second in the E8 in goals scored.
Helping Out: Eight other Pioneers have registered at least one point on the season…
Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) has three goals and four assists on the season, while
Jessica Franklin (Delevan, NY/Pioneer),
Chasity Eckert (Afton, NY/Afton Central), and
Angela Charles (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) have scored two goals each for Utica.
Defense Shutting Down: Angela Charles (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool),
Meghan Morreale (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro),
Ally Sanders (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell),
Amanda Vitro (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central), and
Marissa Davendonis (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls Central) have led the Utica defensive unit that has shut down the opposing offense… They have held opponents to an average of just 6.2 shots and 1.2 goals per game… Utica has also given up just 25 penalty corners.
Cunningham Coming Up Big: Sophomore goalie
Olivia Cunningham (Bethlehem, NH/Profile) leads the Empire 8 with a .800 save percentage and 1.19 goals against average… She also has two shutouts through five games so far.
Scouting Geneseo: The Knights are currently 1-3 overall and are coming off a 4-0 loss at William Smith College… UC is 7-1 against Geneseo dating back to 2003… Last year, the Pioneers downed the Knights 2-1… Steele-Norton and Mackey scored for Utica.
Looking Ahead: Following this, the Pioneers hit the road as they travel to Rochester, NY, Saturday, for an Empire 8 match up against Nazareth College… Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
