Utica, NY (9/18/12)- The Utica College women's soccer team returns to action Wednesday as it hosts D'Youville College for a non-conference contest. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

Sarah Southwell (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) led the way with one goal and one assist, while
Samantha Spohler (East Durham, NY/Cairo Durham),
Jaime Hillman (Hornell, NY/Hornell), and
Kati Stolz (Port Byron, NY/Union Springs) all netted a goal for UC… Junior
Caitlyn Smith (Waterville, NY/Madison) tallied 12 saves for her fifth win of the season.

Shut Down D: The Utica defensive unit, led by
Emily Brien (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee),
Caitlyn Smith (Waterville, NY/Madison),
Emily Lefebvre (Worthington, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon), and
Taylor Giglio (Utica, NY/Whitesboro), has shut down opponents this season… They have held opponents to just 1.17 goals per game so far.
Scouting D'Youville: The Spartans are currently 4-1 overall and are coming off an 18-0 win over Penn State-Beaver… Junior Danielle Gehen and sophomore Abby Blakely lead them… Gehen is first on the team in goals (eight), assists (six), and points (22), while Blakely has seven goals and one assist.
Against the Spartans: This is only the second meeting between the two teams… Last year the Pioneers beat D'Youville 4-2…

Looking Ahead: Following this, the Pioneers kick off conference play as they host Alfred University for the “Kick Cancer” game on Saturday… The game is part of a soccer double-header featuring the men's and women's teams and all proceeds from the event will be donated towards cancer research.
