Verona, NY (9/22/12)- The Utica College women's tennis team defeated Cazenovia College 8-1 at Turning Stone Resort.

Freshman Rose Zaloom (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) got things started for the Pioneers as she defeated Caz's Kierstyn Decory 7-5, 6-0 in second singles.

Senior Jen Persio defeated Brianna Turner 6-1, 6-3; sophomore Heather Brisson (Azusa, CA/Azusa) defeated Rebecca Bossin 7-5, 6-0; and freshman Doni Look (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) defeated Samantha King 6-2, 6-2 to round off singles play.

Zaloom teamed up with freshman Melanie Guzman (Augosta, ME/Cony ) to win their doubles match 8-2, while Persio and Brisson won 8-0.  Utica also won one singles and one doubles match by default.

The Wildcats fall to 0-1 on the season, as this was the young program's first match ever.  The Pioneers move to 1-4 on the year. 

Utica returns to action Saturday as it travels to Alfred, NY for a conference match against Alfred University.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
