Utica, NY (9/27/12)- The Utica College field hockey team looks to get back on track, Friday as it heads to Rochester, NY to take on non-conference opponent, University of Rochester. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Last Time Out: Utica is coming off a 4-2 loss to Elmira on Wednesday… Sophomore
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) scored both Pioneer goals.
Where We Sit: Utica is currently 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8… UC is tied for 6th in the conference standings with defending E8 champion, Washington & Jefferson… The Pioneers have outscored opponents 29-15 on the season and are averaging 21.4 shots, while giving up 6.6 shots against per game.
Steele-Norton Honored: Sophomore
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) was recently named the Northwestern Mutual Mohawk Valley Collegiate Female Athlete of the Month… Steele-Norton has a league-leading 11 goals, as well as 22 points, and 55 shots… She has nine goals in the last five games, and has three multi-goal games so far this year.
Mackey Makes a Difference: Sophomore
Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) has proven to be a difference-maker for UC… Utica is 5-0 this season when Mackey scores… She is currently second on the team with seven goals and six assists, for 20 points.
Scouting U of R: The Yellow Jackets are currently 8-2 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League Conference… They opened the season with an impressive 8-0 record, but have lost their last two games… Most recently, they fell to Cortland 3-2 on Wednesday… Senior Shelby Hall and freshman Michelle Relin lead the team with ten goals apiece… Hall also has five assists, while Relin has totaled four helpers.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers return home Wednesday as they face RPI for a non-conference match up… Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
