Steele-Norton's OT Tally Lifts Utica Past #18 U of R

Freshman Kells Casey had six saves in her first collegiate start
Box Score Rochester, NY (9/28/12)- The Utica College field hockey team got back on track, Friday as it downed nationally-ranked No. 18, University of Rochester, 2-1 in overtime.  Sophomore Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) scored both goals for UC, while freshman Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) picked up her first collegiate win in her first career start.

Steele-Norton opened the scoring in the 28th minute as she collected the ball 40 yards out and ran down the left side.  She tucked a ball past Yellow Jacket goalie, Madison Wagner, to put the Pioneers up 1-0.

Rochester got on the board just two minutes later as Megan Keil netted her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Gina Cunningham. Keil tipped Cunningham's shot passed Casey to even the score.

Both teams traded scoring chances, but were unable to put one by either goalie and the game was sent to overtime.

Just six minutes into the extra frame, Steele-Norton netted her league-leading 13th goal of the season.  After a scramble in front of Wagner, Steele-Norton was able to slide a ball into the open net to seal the victory.

Rochester falls to 8-3 on the season and Utica improves to 6-3.  Casey stopped six shots in the win, while Wagner made 12 saves in the loss.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they host RPI in non-conference action.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
